It Takes All Kinds

While you wait…

for some other content to be uploaded, allow me to talk about The Heavy Circles’ eponymous album, a collaboration between sometimes New Bohemian Edie Brickell and stepson Harper Simon, son of famous father Paul. The album is winging its way across the Atlantic in the delicious 1980s format known as CD to – hopefully – land on my desk in the next couple of weeks.

Though its release almost snuck up on me (I was aware it was coming, but not when) has not stopped a rush of anticipation that would’ve led to one Carly Simon classic being renamed Obsession. The reunion of Brickell and New Bohemians kept me busy for a short while, but I find myself going back to her second solo album Volcano (2003) more often. So when I heard the preview track over at the album’s website, I immediately preordered the album on amazon.com due to the song evoking a dreaminess similar to that solo album.

The UK release appears to be a couple of months away, but if you’re unfamiliar with Brickell’s work then I warmly recommend that you check out Volcano along with Picture Perfect Morning (1994), in particular Good Times, which is an overlooked work of beauty that makes me want to lie in the shade, drinking with friends all day long.
